Townsville & District Garden Club, Qld held a very decadent High Tea to celebrate their 50th Anniversary on Tuesday 16 October 2018 at the Townsville RSL. A sincere welcome and brief history of the club was given by President Martin Boorer followed by an address and thank-you to guest of honour Mayor Jenny Hill. The club was founded on 28th November 1968 with just 7 Members and now in 2018 has a Membership of 190.

As part of the celebrations Mayor Jenny Hill presented a Gold Life Membership Badge and Certificate to Marion Kruger. Marion has been a member since 2002 and in that time has served 8 years as the Club’s Bus Trip Convenor, 6 years as Treasurer and 3 years as President all while building and maintaining her own wonderful garden which she opens up to local and visiting club members. As a collector of rare and interesting plants Marion has travelled extensively throughout Australia and overseas extending her knowledge and sharing this with club members along with help and advice on any gardening concerns.
